The Peoria Symphony Guild brings classical music to the school of children of our community to hear, appreciate and enjoy. These musical experiences are presented in a variety of forms.

Student Concerts

Since 1954, thousands of students and their teachers have attended daytime concerts presented by the Peoria Symphony Orchestra. For many, this is a very special first-time experience for students for whom a whole new vista of music is opened.

Young Artist Competition

Young instrumentalists and vocalists, 18-years and younger, are encouraged to achieve excellence by participating in a competition, which culminates with a solo performance with the Peoria Symphony Orchestra at the annual Student Concerts. The instrumental winner receives the Alice Oakley Memorial Scholarship and vocalists receive the Donna Wilkinson Schwindenhammer Award.

Puppet Troupe

Elementary school classes are genuinely enchanted by the traditional puppet shows that features timeless stories supported by classical music. The shows are mounted by a dedicated group of puppeteers that assemble a complete miniature stage involving sets, props, lighting and delightful puppet figures. Introduction to the Orchestra

Materials may be requested to prepare classes for an upcoming Student Concert and a Peoria Symphony Guild volunteer is also available for a presentation. To schedule a volunteer visit contact Audrey Beeney - 309-681-1778

Master Classes

Young musicians may hear and question visiting and resident artists in an informal setting that includes interaction between the student audience and the performer. The artist will offer a critique of a student performance.

School Instrument Grant

The Guild awards grants to purchase instruments for students who otherwise would not have the funds to participate in music programs. Grants are awarded in May.
